Read on as our counselling psychologists share about themselves
Meghan MacKenzie
I grew up in a chaotic and unpredictable environment. I believe those experiences cultivated my curiosity, compassion and determination to help others. It sparked my passion to understand how our early life experiences influence our current behaviours. I wondered how we can change our behaviours to develop adaptive strategies.
We do not choose the hardships life bestows upon us, but we are left to clean up the mess. I help my clients make meaningful changes by understanding their values.
It took a bit of time for me to get where I am today. I started out in the restaurant industry, then the optical industry with brief moments in retail, until I made my way into the oil and gas industry. At that point, I was unsatisfied with my working life and knew I wanted a change. I pursued education and simultaneously began working in the social services field, where I have been for more than a dozen years and am grateful to be in this career as a psychologist.
As a therapist, I have worked in university, non-profit, hospital and private settings with a range of professionals (i.e. first responders, nurses, teachers, doctors, lawyers, engineers, students, customer service and those in leadership roles).
I founded Psychology Solutions Calgary in 2015 and am pleased at our growth. I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Mount Royal University, a Masters of Counselling Degree from Adler University and I am a Registered Psychologist in Alberta. I am a professional member of the College of Alberta Psychologists, and Psychologists Association of Alberta. I look forward to helping you make lasting changes. Meghan

Initiating any type of therapy can be intimidating. My approach is to offer a welcoming, non-judgmental space where clients feel heard and understood as we work together on your treatment goals. I work with individuals on a wide range of mental health-related issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, parenting, burnout and workplace issues. Over the years, I have worked with clients from a variety of fields, from first responders, health care workers and teachers, to executives, business and sales professionals, and office personnel, and to stay-at-home moms and dads.
Prior to becoming a registered psychologist, I worked with organizations developing and managing mental health programs in their workplaces. Over time, I discovered that my interests shifted from the corporate scale, to a desire to helping people make a positive impact in their own lives, at the individual scale. I use a client-centered approach to therapy using concepts and tools from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Accelerated Resolution Therapy.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Harding University, and a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Psychology from Middle Tennessee State University. I am a Registered Psychologist, a member of the College of Alberta Psychologists and the Psychologists Association of Alberta. I find great reward in helping people achieve a life of purpose that is in line with one’s values. Let’s get started. Nicola

I have always been interested in how people relate to themselves, make choices and how they interact with their world. Working as a psychologist has allowed me to use this curiosity to connect with, support and empower others. I believe that early experiences, both positive and negative, shape our beliefs about the world around us and influence the decisions we make. Sometimes we can feel stuck, need to make changes, or just need extra support. This is where I can help you.
In the world of mental health I have worked both in clinical and research roles. I have worked in non profit, hospital and private settings with both child and adult clients with a wide range of concerns.
I am a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists and a member of the Psychologists Association of Alberta. I completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology at McGill University and a Masters of Counselling Degree from City University of Seattle. I look forward to working with you. Mariko
